About

My name is Elizabeth, and I am a Guide Leader from NSW, Australia.

From the moment I made my Brownie Guide Promise back in 1991, I knew I was going to be a Brownie, a Guide, a Ranger, a Young Leader, and eventually a Leader. I had very high hopes of following in my mum’s footsteps – she had been through the ranks and ended up a leader!

I made it through Brownies, and Guides, but then my journey had to stop – there were no Ranger units nearby. Once I reached adulthood, I ended up in industries that worked obscure hours and shift patterns, so returning to Guiding was never an option. Then I moved countries.

My life changed. My commitments changed. My work hours changed. I finally had the chance to chase the dream of my little 9-year-old heart. I immediately joined my local Guide unit and started work on my Leadership qualifications. I get the privilege of delivering fun and exciting programs to girls. I get to watch them grow from quiet, timid little people, into young women who are ready and willing to take charge and take on the world!

Now, with five-years long service under my belt, it’s time for me to give back, especially with the sudden and abrupt change to Guiding – moving from face-to-face to online. These times have been challenging, and I hope to bring some ideas and support to those other leaders out there doing it tough.

To all the Girl Guide leaders, here in Australia and around the world, a big shout out to you all! You are doing an awesome job – keep up the good work! And I hope you can find something useful here to help!
